Many texts have come out of the middle ages, passing down the oral and written traditions for later generations to cherish and enjoy. An elite group of these texts have surpassed simply being passed down by becoming foundations upon which other stories have been structured and penned.

The most famous of medieval lore to have survived centuries of storytelling is the Arthurian legend. There are many versions of the legend, each with its own adaptations and origins, but all of which share common themes such as honor, generosity, glory, courtesy, and loyalty. Here are a few examples of texts that have survived and impacted today's stories.
